This fast will be an intense yet a beautiful devotion to God. The benefits of the fast, for your body, are laid out in scientific research.
1) Promotes detoxification
2) Gives your digestive system a rest
3) Helps resolve inflammatory response
4) Reduces blood sugar
5) Increases fat breakdown
6) Corrects high blood pressure
7) Promotes weight loss
8) Allows less processed food cravings
9) Boost immunity
10) Helps with medical conditions
One article stated:
“The art of fasting is an ancient tradition practiced for thousands of years for curing illness of all kinds, rejuvenation, clarity and decision making, cleansing and strengthening. Have you noticed that when you’re sick, your appetite diminishes? (Similarly, when animals are ill, they lie down and often don’t eat or drink.) Energy goes towards healing our bodies instead of digesting food.
Fasting also allows for the body’s enzyme system to focus on detoxifying and breaking down toxins in the body quickly and efficiently without the job of heavy food digestion. During fasts, toxins are being circulated in the body in order for our organs to de-arm them. Therefore, it’s not always wise to detoxify quickly because a flood of toxins being released at once can cause serious distress to the body that can do more harm than good.”
Another fact I read about was the human body stores a large amount of sludge in the intestines which does not move for years on end. Needless to say, I am more than happy to give this fast a try. If it works out well, I plan on fasting 10 days at the beginning of each year, and possibly 1 Day a month. More on this later…
Another article stated: “Although protein is being used by the body during the fast, a person fasting even 40 days on water will not suffer a deficiency of protein, vitamins, minerals or fatty acids.” Remember, Jesus fasted (only water) for 40 days (Matthew 4:1-2).
Talking about Jesus and fasting, the spiritual benefits of a Fast will be even more rewarding for you. This fast will contains a warm-up, workout and cool down. The warm-up is a three day on-ramp into which others have stated as the hardest three days. Your body will apparently want food more than ever and you will be fighting off the cravings. You may become grouchy and “hard to deal with.” This, in my opinion, would be a great time to test your patience and relationship with God. To seek God and display self-control when the body and flesh begins to demand attention. The workout will be the next 5 days where I will be positing a specific scripture to meditate on for that day and seek God’s revelation in. The last two days will be the cool down where I will be providing new scriptures but combining them with studied scriptures and bring it all together.
On day 11, we will start back with a liquid type of food. This will be easier for the body to begin processing. At day 12, you can go back to regular healthy foods. I really look forward to this fast and I am excited to see the results (physical and spiritual cleanse and growth).
“That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.” – Matthew 6:18 (kjv)
